The character of a Trimmer, [ca. 1690].

Manuscript on paper, in cursive hand, of a treatise on English government and politics, religion, and foreign affairs. The author advocates compromise and moderation on such issues as liberty and the balance between freedom and government. He considers the relationship between religion and government as inseparable, and deplores England's decreased role in world affairs, especially in relation to France's, citing the War of Devolution and the Treaty of Aix-La-Chappelle in 1668.
